I am sitting at my desk, after office hours, contemplating my ministry. Corporate law which I practice is a difficult and demanding profession but it is still based on a respect for law and if you consider law a reflection of morality then you could, with an active imagination, build an argument for an altruistic purpose.. but it is a bit far fetched.

To understand the spiritual nature of work, we need to understand that work is what we were intrinsictally called to do. Adam was ask to tend the Garden (Genesis). And we are still called to tend the Garden… its just that the garden has grown larger. This is Paul Steven’s understanding of doing ”Kingdom” work (as distinct from “Christ” and the “Holy Spirit’s” work). My garden as a corporate lawyer is my corporation, my collegues, my clients, my associates, my shareholders and our responsibility to wider society. Is that a stretch of biblical thruth? Think about it…what else could the garden be then all of God’s creation and what is more important in that then Man (and Woman of course).

So that the my thought for the end of this work week. I have tended the Garden, so lets watch the flowers bloom…but that is another meditation

Praise God

I don’t really agree with his politics but if courage and conviction defines a man, then JBJ was a giant of a man.

I used to see him outside the GCF office at North Bridge Centre because his law office was on the same floor. He would always eye me suspiciously when we entered the lift together. He looked like a broken man physically but spiritually he was far from broken. Here was a man to be emulated and courage to be admired. Our world was a little bit less special when he left.

There are three projects going very quickly now. I intend to visit two projects at the end of this year, one in Cambodia and one in India. The project in Indonesia is still being discussed and I will be meeting the sponsor in Nov for discussions.

Please pray for us.

Its been a busy week. More busy than I care to repeat. Too busy for me to remember to focus on the things that are important. Dr Lee Soo Ann spoke on Friday about the importance of Silence, Simplicity and Sanctification in the midst of this crazy world. The one that I struggle most with is silence. Its not that I have not been silent - indeed as a teenager I built my faith not through attending church but by reading the bible and talking long walks praying and meditating. St Augustine is reputed to have said that because he was busy - therefore he spent more time in prayer amd meditation. I am thinking of working meditation in to my life as a habit - maybe cycling to work or incorporating as part of an exercise routine. After having served in two ministries in the last ten years, I know prayer is must be the foundation of Karios - now comes the the task of foundation building.

What a day … in fact what a week. The financial markets are in free fall. My company is being put on sale. And Karios is waiting to launch this website on Friday at the GCF dinner. It is amazing how I have gone from a period very recently of relative calm (just a couple of months ago) to running at 100 mph. Karios is moving too it has gone from nothing really happening in June - to two possible projects in Cambodia and one in Indonesia (the project in India is still proceeding). Juggling that and work has suddenly become a challenge but I anticipate only the grace of God and am preparing to be amazed once again as to how He will make a way.

Finally on the third attempt I think we have something close to what our vision for the website was when we started the Kairos ministry. The challenge is…how do we build a ministry platform that can leverage on technology that will not tax our team of volunteers too much. We would have attempted fully interactive interface were it not for the fact that personal interaction and networking is very intergral to Christian ministry. So we have a hybrid where Christians can post their projects and gifts and volunteer serve but the vetting and contact can still be done in the traditional sense… face to face.

I am happy with what we have it to start. It represents a plaform on which we can build. The first tangible sign that Kairos is up and running!

Praise God!
